Grooming and pruning are essential for grapevines to thrive, and the Bible applies this to spiritual growth:

Removing Unfruitful Branches: Branches that produce absolutely no fruit are cut off and removed.

Pruning Fruitful Branches: Branches that do bear fruit are pruned—cut back to remove dead, diseased, or overgrown areas. While this can feel painful in a person's life, the goal is to direct the vine's energy so it produces even more high-quality fruit.

The Cleansing: Jesus told His disciples, "You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you" (John 15:3). In this context, "cleansing" is synonymous with this spiritual pruning process, where God's truth trims away habits or distractions that hinder spiritual health.”
